A contrast of the prophet of God (Amos) and the prophet of profit (Amaziah)

1. Amaziah rebukes Amos (Amos 7:10-13)

• Lies about his content (Amos 7:10-11) – Amos 7:1, 9
• Lies about his calling (Amos 7:12)
• Lies about his character (Amos 7:13)

2. Amos refutes Amaziah (Amos 7:14-17)

• Calling directly by God (Amos 7:14-15)
• Condemnation from God on Amaziah’s family, fortune, and the nation (Amos 7:16-17)

Beware of mocking the messenger of almighty God. (2 Kings 13:1-6; 2:23-25; 2 Chronicles 6:16-20; 36:14-16)
